So here is the problem of the day. Weeds knee high…weedy wack (easier) or pull? Don’t like to use weed killer. Pulling will kill back. Big dilemma my gardening friend.

HAD THIS SAME HUGE PROBLEM- in my cactus garden with all the rain we have had. SOLUTION… Take 20 minutes per day and pull them, every day for a few weeks and it will be done. PAY SOMEONE TO PULL THEM even better. I found it easier to just spend a few minutes each day for two weeks. I think it’s worth it to pay someone to do it for you though!

    Hi Nadia,
How jealous I am of your veggies. Sigh.
Have a Happy Easter or Passover.

THANKS LYNN! I can see from your blog that it is still very cold for your garden. I look forward to seeing your summer garden! Nadia

After reading about the health and environmental hazards of using RoundUp, we researched natural alternatives. We discovered that white vinegar makes a great weed killer. Just use a sprayer to drench the leaves on a hot day and the sun will do the rest. Vinegar is perfectly harmless to the soil. We bought three huge jugs at Costco for $3.50 each, poured into a pump sprayer (the kind they sell at Lowe’s near the chemical weed killers), and sprayed away at the weeds coming up between our pavers and on an area of our yard that currently has no plants. A few hours later, the weeds were all brown and dead, which is faster than any chemical weed killer works).

Great idea. I did that with my pavers also but forgot about using it around other plants. Thanks for the comment! A MUCH better alternative to round-up, especially where pets are concerned.

I love the “Home Grown” T-shirt (at least that’s what I think it is?). I want one! :-)

It is a T-Shirt. Made by “PRANA”, they are a local company that makes outdoor clothing and yoga clothing. I live near the warehouse so I go once a year to the sale, that’s where I got the t-shirt. Too perfect for the garden blogger type! Maybe you could still find it on their website. http://www.prana.com
