Flower Frogs are the perfect gadget for those of us who are floral arrangement challenged! Flower frogs are also known as flower spikes, flower cages, and flower pins. All you need to do is cut a flower, or plant, and push it right into the top of the pins, then place it in a small container of water. Flower Frogs were used as far back as the 16th century in Europe, and in the United States they were very popular in the 1920′s. Are you interested in getting one of your very own? I found some interesting glass and ceramic antique flower frogs on ebay, and also some very inexpensive metal frogs on saveoncrafts.com. These pictures here are with my ” 1 inch” diameter flower frog and a small 2 inch ceramic pinch pot. I like to use succulents because they stay looking perfect for months; it’s the quintessential green arrangement for any room in the house, or work space. Keep water level just at the top of the pins.

Blooming Aloe
The aloes in my yard are in full bloom now. October always reminds me of the color orange, with pumpkins everywhere and Halloween decorations at every turn. Although green is my favorite color, there is something about orange in nature that takes my breath away. Flowers have a way of stopping time and surrounding us with an atmosphere of perfection and peace.
Happy Monday – make it a beautiful day!

I drove to San Juan Capistrano, CA today to photograph a Front Yard Garden. For years I have heard of “Tony’s Front Yard Pumpkin Patch” and wanted to share this great idea on my blog. Tony’s yard was more than a pumpkin patch: it was a complete botanical wonder! There were gourds, tomatoes, sunflowers, succulents, pumpkins of all sizes, zucchini, lavender, strawberries, artichoke, and the list went on and on. I fell in love with the idea of creating a garden in the front yard that invites neighbors in, and shares the gift of gardening with all who walk by. Tony said he does not have a method, or science to his garden, he just keeps planting what he loves! Thank you for the gardening inspiration and visit to your magical front yard.
